GENES WE ARE DEALT | Sujal Manohar
“On a clinical rotation, one of my patients eloquently described their genetic condition as the “cards they were dealt.” This artwork depicts the process of being diagnosed with a genetic condition, with each playing card symbolizing a common gene mutation responsible for a disorder. Genetic mutations are often unpredictable. However, much like a hand of playing cards, individuals facing a genetic diagnosis possess agency in managing their condition. Despite the seemingly arbitrary nature of the “cards” dealt to them, patients can actively make choices and navigate their condition on their own terms.”
