Shawn Alexa Rosario

“Just as the figures sit and contemplate the vast expanse of villi-like structures before them, I reflect on the challenges and sacrifices of a pursuing a medical career. Playing with elements of repetition and differences in size, I wanted to depict the overwhelming feelings a student can often experience when faced with the seemingly infinite amount of medical knowledge one must learn. At the same time, the viewers are not alone; they accompany each other in their journey, representing the unexpected camaraderie one may find on the way.”

Shawn Alexa Rosario is a second-year medical student at USF Morsani College of Medicine in Tampa, FL. Rosario's paintings have been exhibited at the University Art Gallery at UC Irvine, Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, Davis Arts Center, and ExplorIt Art Science Center. Her recent work focuses on formulating captivating scenes that tell personal and universal stories in medicine. Rosario is planning on pursuing a specialty in Pathology.
